Mikey & the GOP

Charles Roth, November 4th, 2026

I'm normally not a fan of schadenfreude.

But Republican Mike Rogers supposedly represented Michigan in Congress for 14 years... while really serving Big Pharma, and opposing health care for children.  His failed campaign for the Michigan US Senate seat, based largely on Islamaphobic and racist dog-whistles, deserves some payback.

Reflecting on election night 2026, and his back-to-back losses for the Senate race in 2024 and 2026, and his likely 'real' home in Florida, I realized that he will probably never return to run in Michigan again.

Yes, the "man who'll never return".

From there, with Charlie & the MTA in my ears, the song mostly wrote itself.

Mikey & the GOP       Charlie & the MTA
Let me tell you all the story 'bout a man named Mikey
On a fateful election spree
He put millions in his pocket, went and kissed some babies
For to ride with the GOP

But now he'll never return, no he'll never return
For his lesson has been learned
He'll retire forever to the straits of Flor-da
He's the man who'll never return

Mikey claimed that his time was spent helping the nation
While he worked for Big Pharma's aims
But his lies to the voters left him in a bad pickle
Mikey couldn't avoid all their blame

Now all night long Mikey follows the tallies
Crying "what will become of me?"
"How can I afford to keep my mansion in Flor-da
If I stay with the GOP?"

Michi-geese and -ganders don't you think it's scandal
That AIPAC got to pay his fee?
Fight the racist slanders -- we've got Doctor Abdul
Help ditch Mikey and the GOP!

Let me tell you all the story 'bout a man named Charlie
On a tragic and fateful day
He put 10 cents in his pocket, kissed his wife & family
Went to ride on the MTA

And did he ever return, no he never returned
And his fate is still unlearned
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston
He's the man who never returned

Charlie handed in his dime at the Kendall Square station
And he changed for Jamaica Plain
When he got there the conductor told him "one more nickel"
Charlie couldn't get off of that train!

Now all night long Charlie rides thru the stations
Crying "what will become of me?"
"How can I afford to see my sister in Chelsea"
Or my cousin in Roxbury!"

Charlie's wife goes down to the Sculley Square station
Every day at quarter-past-2
And thru the open window she hands Charlie a sandwich
As the train goes rumbling thru

Now you citizens of Boston don't you think it's a scandal
How the people have to pay and pay?
Fight the fare increase -- vote for George O'Brien
Help get Charlie off the MTA!
