Superiority
by Arthur C. Clarke, 1951

Commentary:
Sir Arthur C. Clarke's 3rd law states: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Roth's 1st law is essentially the contrapositive of Clarke's 3rd law, to wit: "Any sufficiently confusing magic is not necessarily an advanced technology."

I am a software architect of many (too many!) years experience.  And over and over again, I've seen the too-rapid application of new, 'near-magical' technologies.  Which will "solve all our problems."

Ah, yes indeed.  And beware the monkey's paw, the Jinni's wish.  (And C++, and Angular version 1, and...)

So it should be no surprise that dear Sir Arthur himself wrote us a warning parable of sorts -- which for years was required reading for an MIT course.  Read it, remember it -- and be ye warned.
